Building Better Websites

There’s lots of reasons you might have a lackluster website, or a website that isn’t working for your business the way you think it should.

Maybe you hear it all the time.

“I couldn’t find you online.”

“I didn’t know you had a website.”

“I was looking for more information, but didn’t see what I was looking for.”

And those are the ones you hear. Think about all the traffic that’s missing you that you aren’t hearing about.

A well done website is more than a brochure

There came a point in the last twenty years where it was agreed that your business and brand needed a website. To be successful in the digital age you were going to need a presence online.

Unfortunately, for a lot of businesses this became one of the many “To-Do’s” on a checklist that was never getting any shorter. For many businesses starting out, it wasn’t clear what advantage they’d get from their website.

With the proliferation of website builders like Wix and Squarespace, it became easier for business owners to make a website for their business and to even make something that didn’t look that bad. What we might call a “good enough” website, or what is commonly referred to as a “brochure website”.

These websites, built with templates and shipping tons of unnecessary code, have a standard, approximately five-page layout that tells potential customers where the business is located, when they are open, a little about what they do, and maybe a little something about the people who run it. Maybe it links to a social media page.

They are static and unchanging. If the business owner built it themselves, it’s maybe gotten a little weird over the years as the software has updated without the owner making changes, or has become outdated. If they’ve paid for someone else to do it, it may face the same problems, unless they’ve been paying for ongoing maintenance and security.

What they don’t do is help your business scale effectively. They don’t help with new customer leads, with growing existing relationships, or with building a brand’s industry authority.
